Honoring Mom!

Honoring Mom!

Walk-Line:

Mother’s Day isn’t explicitly mentioned in the Bible, but scripture offers profound wisdom on honoring and cherishing mothers. The Bible emphasizes the sacred role of motherhood, portraying it as a divine calling filled with love, wisdom, and sacrifice. Here are a few key biblical insights:

Honor and Respect

The commandment in Exodus 20:12 instructs us to honor our parents, reinforcing the importance of showing gratitude and love to mothers. In Ephesians 6:1-4, the apostle Paul talks about this commandment as having a promise of long life on the earth. We may not always agree with our parents, but there must always be love and respect for them. I don't always agree with my heavenly Father, on what He does in my life, and what He calls me to do. But I know that without a doubt that He loves me, and always has my best interest at heart. He calls us to love Him, an obey Him. That same love, and respect should be shown to our parents.

Nurturing Love

Isaiah 66:13 compares God’s comfort to that of a mother, highlighting the deep compassion and care mothers provide. To have our God treat us like a mother, who loves and nurtures her child all through their lives, is such an encouragement and comfort. My mother was not always well, growing up, but she did her best in the midst of her illnesses to make sure I was doing good. Thank you mom!

Spiritual Influence

2 Timothy 1:5 acknowledges the faith passed down through generations, showing how a mother’s devotion can shape future believers. If it were not for my mother, guiding our whole family to the Lord Jesus, and to church, I would not have been in the pastoral ministry for almost 50 years. My son, also is in church ministry. In the long run, we owe it to my mother, who felt it was very important to have a relationship with the Lord, and to be involved in ministry for Him.

Wisdom and Instruction

Proverbs 31:25-28 praises the strength, dignity, and wisdom of a godly woman, celebrating the virtues of motherhood. I heard this said on a TV show, several years ago. "The sweetest word in the English language is "Home." And who keeps the home? Yes, fathers provide for the home, but mothers are the "keepers" of the home. This from my perspective. I remember a song recorded by Steve Wariner entitled "A Turn In The Road." It talks about a son, who when ever he went through troubled times, his mother was always there to encourage and comfort him. And when she was going through a tough time, in the loss of her husband, the son wanted to return the favor. That is love established, by a mother in the home.

Blessing and Gratitude

Psalm 127:3 describes children as a heritage from the Lord, emphasizing the joy and responsibility of raising them. As parents, we are not perfect, and we make mistakes. But there should always be the joy in raising our children! I am happy and proud of what my children are doing today. I feel that they have become very successful. My daughter, is a manager in a supplemental health insurance company. My son is an associate pastor, and has recently obtained his doctorate. Our youngest son, who has a disability, yet he is an excellent writer, and is very good with people. Do our children make mistakes? Yes!, but we love them, and will always want the best for them!

Motherhood is a reflection of God’s love, and celebrating mothers aligns with biblical principles of gratitude and reverence.

How wonderful and essential mothers are.
They make our world a better place.
They nourish, care, encourage, all of our days
They provide an environment that is comforting and safe.
