Don't Be Set Back, By A Set Back

"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10)

Have you ever been Set back, by a set back? That may be a silly question. To explain my question, have you ever allowed a problem, or a trial to really overwhelm you, and cause you to become very discouraged? Things were going great, and you felt really great about life. Things were going your way. Then all of a sudden, without any warning whatsoever, you run into an obstacle, a problem, yes a trial, and you feel like your world is falling apart. Yes, that is called a "Set back."

Setbacks can feel discouraging, but the Bible offers wisdom and encouragement to help navigate them. Here are some key Biblical truths about setbacks:

God has a plan for you.

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God’s plans are to prosper us and give us hope, even when we face difficulties. God never promised us, that in this life, we would never have set backs. But we can be assured that, He will lead us through those set backs, to bring us where He wants us to be, to fulfill His purposes for our lives. 

Trials build perseverance.

James 1:2-3 teaches that facing trials strengthens our faith and produces perseverance. God works all things for good. Romans 8:28 assures us that even setbacks can be used for a greater purpose in God’s plan.

Strength comes from God.

Philippians 4:13 reminds us that we can overcome challenges through Christ’s strength. This has been one of my favorite verses of Scripture. It's never in our strength that we overcome those Set backs. But always in the strength of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hope in the Lord renews strength.

Isaiah 40:31 encourages us to trust in God, knowing He will renew our strength. Set backs can drain us of our strength. I have mentioned before that "stress" can be a killer. Anxiety can eat us from the inside out. But we don't need to allow this to happen. Our hope is in the greatest power in the universe. That is in God's power. It is such an encouragement that God is standing with us, as we go through the storms of life, caused by these set backs. We should always remember that, we are never alone.

Setbacks are not the end—they can be stepping stones to greater faith and resilience. 

Don't be set back by a set back.
Never allow trouble to shake you so.
Trust in God, to see you through.
He will hold you, and never let you go!
